Ubuntu and SD Card setup
Before installing Cyclops you will need to flash an OS image and set up SSH on your Pi 5. This will prepare the computer for all installations and configurations in the rest of the setup process.
Install Ubuntu 24
We use Raspberry Pi Imager to flash on OS your micro SD card.
(download for Linux or Windows)
We will use Ubuntu 24.04 Server, as it is more lightweight than the Desktop version.
Connect the SD card to your host computer with Raspberry Pi Imager, select the OS for the Pi 5, the SD card as the storage, and flash the Ubuntu Server 24.04 OS onto the SD card.
When prompted for OS customization, press No, as the following step will automatically setup the SD card for this.
Run the SD card Setup Script
To save time if you are using a Raspberry Pi 5 with Ubuntu Server 24.04, we recommend using this setup script after flashing the boot SD card. The script will apply some default configurations so you don't need to manually setup the serial port.
This runs on your Ubuntu Linux host, against a freshly flashed Ubuntu Server 24.04, before the Pi's first boot.
On first boot, cloud-init will:
Set hostname:
clop-$DEVICE_NUMCreate user 'pi' (password: pi, sudo)
Enable SSH with password auth
Set static IP:
192.168.218.100Create
/home/pi/recordingsDisable EEE on eth0 (Pi 5 link-flap fix)
Setup Pi serial port
Reboot to apply boot config changes
Run this command from your host (the mount path may differ):
sudo apt-get install device-tree-compiler
bash setup-sd-card.sh -n 1 /media/$USER/system-bootThis step only configures Ubuntu, to finish installing Cyclops, see vns-sdk setup.
After the script has run, insert the SD card into the Pi, connect the Pi to power and wait for it to boot. You can now connect over SSH via an Ethernet cable with the command below. The username and password are bot "pi" by default.
ssh pi@192.168.218.100Last updated
